Skin Procedures
Lipoma Excision
Lipoma excision is a surgical procedure to remove a lipoma, or "fat lump," which involves cutting through the skin to extract the abnormal growth. The surgery can be done under local anaesthesia, or a light general anaesthetic may be needed, depending on the size and location of the lipoma.
First, Dr Umar will cleanse the region surrounding the lipoma with an antibacterial solution. He then administers a local anaesthetic around the lipoma to help numb the area. Afterwards, he cuts into the skin above the lipoma and removes abnormal tissue. Finally, he stitches the wound closed.
Surgical Drainage of a Skin Abscess
Similar to the surgical removal of a lipoma, Dr Umar may treat a skin abscess containing pus in the same way. However, he drains the fluid from the abscess instead of removing the tissue. In order to treat the abscess, Dr Umar cuts over the skin of the abscess to drain the pus.
Hernia Surgery
Hernia Repair
A hernia is a break in the muscular wall, allowing tissue to poke through the exposed region. Hernia repair can be done minimally invasively through a few small cuts or openly through a much larger incision. Dr Umar inflates the abdomen using carbon dioxide so he can view the internal organs in great detail. Next, he severs the inside lining of the abdomen (peritoneum) to reveal the weakened region of the abdominal wall. He then surgically inserts a mesh inside to conceal the weakened parts of the abdominal wall and reinforce the tissue.
