Why would it be necessary to visit a general surgeon?

You may visit a general surgeon for numerous reasons related to issues that affect body parts such as the breasts, skin, gallbladder, liver, pancreas, colon, bowel, oesophagus and stomach.

1Do I need a referral to see Dr Umar?
Yes, most medical aids require that your GP obtain specialist authorisation before you can see a general surgeon. Please refer to the rules of your specific plan.
2Do I need to make an appointment to see Dr Umar?
Yes, you can make an appointment by contacting the practice directly.
3What must I bring to my appointment with Dr Umar?
You should bring the following with you to your appointment:
  • Your ID
  • Medical aid card
  • A list of chronic medications and supplements
  • All paperwork needs to be filled in
4What normally happens at my first appointment with the general surgeon?
Your surgeon will inquire about your symptoms and review your medication and medical history. Afterwards, Dr Umar conducts a physical examination and assesses your symptoms. You may then be asked to undergo further testing, such as blood tests or X-rays.
