Dr Mohamed Taahir Umar

Dr Mohamed Taahir Umar is a specialist general surgeon based in Durban. Dr Umar received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh) from the University of the Witwatersrand and his Fellowship of the College of Surgeons from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA). In addition, he qualified with a Master’s degree in Surgery (MMed Surgery)from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Dr Umar is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF). He completed postgraduate courses in Surgical Skills, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Cardiac Life Support and a course in Compounding and Dispensing Medications. Dr Umar completed his internship through McCord Hospital and community service at Stanger Provincial Hospital.

He researched and wrote "A Comparative Analysis of the Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Reporting Systems within the Durban Metropolitan Complex, "published in the SA Journal of Surgery.

Dr Umar performs various surgical procedures such as gastrointestinal surgery, surgery to treat cancer, skin and hernia surgery, emergency procedures and endoscopy and colonoscopy.
